Chapitre 1 Introduction

AsTEX distribution is a complete scientific platform, which integrates scientific text processing, numerical and formal calculation, graphical representation of data, creation and processing of images, and all the tools necessary to publish the results in printed form or on the web, with posting of the mathematical formulas.

It can be used under Windows 9x (95, 98 or ME), Windows NT (4.0 or 2000), DOS, Windows 3.x, and OS/2. A large part is usable also under Linux.

If you have a web browser on your PC (Internet Explorer or Netscape for example), you can display the documentation (and in particular the handbook Installation, configuration and starter guide of AsTEX) by clicking on the file ast\index.htm of the CD-ROM, from the Windows Explorer. If you don't have it, you can install Netscape from the CD-ROM (file astexdis\view\cp32e405.exe). Documentation can also be consulted on the web server www.univ-orleans.fr/EXT/ASTEX.
