5.2 Test of the installation

Before using the distribution for your work, it is necessary to launch the tests of installation, to verify that all installed software function correctly. It will permit subsequently, in case of problem, to find the origin of the problem quickly.

Start with clicking successively on the icons dvi AsTeX, AsTeX dvi color and AsTeX PS. If you are in Plug & Play mode, the first icon should display a mathematical document, the second a table of characters and the third the drawing of a tiger head. If nothing is displayed, don't despair, the tests that follow should permit to correct the situation. If all shows off, the installation is surely correct. But perform nevertheless all tests below, to become familiar with the main software and their main options.

To launch the systematic tests, select the option [S] teSter (Test) of the installation program:

To test the display, pass in full screen mode (Alt+EntrÚe under Windows, Alt+Home under OS/2) select then [A] Afficher (Display) (by clicking on the option or by typing A). To go out of the display, type Q (Quit).
To test the printing, select [B] Imprimer (Print).
The other options permit to test the interfaces TeXShell and Micro-Emacs with Plain TeX, LaTeX 2.09 and LaTeX2 and to display / to print the manuals of introduction to Plain TeX and LaTeX, of D. Wilkins.

For every option, the installation program indicates if the main files and programs have been installed or not (the list differs according to the type of installation).

Si quelque chose vous parat fonctionner anormalement, lancez la configuration automatique (cf sec. 5.6). Ainsi, tous les logiciels seront configurÚs conformÚment aux paramtres que vous avez choisis Ó l'installation.
