If you have a CD-Rom drive, the distribution can be used directly from the CD-Rom,
in Plug & Play mode. This mode of use has many advantages:
- The installation is very fast: only a core of 40 Mb is installed on the hard
disk.
- All the functions are immediately accessible.
- Installation of updates takes only a few minutes : it is enough to replace
the old CD-Rom by the new one, to refresh the core of AsTeX (option
[ N] iNitialiser (Initialize)), then to start again the installation by
selecting the mode Ecraser (Override) or Mettre ŕ jour (Update).
The new versions (LaTeX2
, Emacs, etc.) are immediately available
without reinstallation.
- It makes it possible to save between 100 Mo and 1,2 Go on your hard disk
(cf sec. 4.2) for the complete installation.
- The distribution is optimized so that the current tasks which would be
carried out too slowly starting from the CD-ROM, are carried out starting
from the hard disk (depending on tasks, the execution time is multiplied
by a factor ranging between 1 and 2).
- It is possible at any time to commutate from Plug & Play mode to the
normal mode and conversely.
