1.3 The Plug & Play CD-Rom

If you have a CD-Rom drive, the distribution can be used directly from the CD-Rom, in Plug & Play mode. This mode of use has many advantages:
  1.  The installation is very fast: only a core of 40 Mb is installed on the hard disk.
  2.  All the functions are immediately accessible.
  3.  Installation of updates takes only a few minutes : it is enough to replace the old CD-Rom by the new one, to refresh the core of AsTeX (option [ N] iNitialiser (Initialize)), then to start again the installation by selecting the mode Ecraser (Override) or Mettre ŕ jour (Update). The new versions (LaTeX2e, Emacs, etc.) are immediately available without reinstallation.
  4.  It makes it possible to save between 100 Mo and 1,2 Go on your hard disk (cf  sec. 4.2) for the complete installation.
  5.  The distribution is optimized so that the current tasks which would be carried out too slowly starting from the CD-ROM, are carried out starting from the hard disk (depending on tasks, the execution time is multiplied by a factor ranging between 1 and 2).
  6.  It is possible at any time to commutate from Plug & Play mode to the normal mode and conversely.
