If you don't use the CD-ROM in Plug & Play mode and that you don't
succeed to compile some documents, (message Sorry, I can't find that
format, will try Plain) the required format probably is not installed on
your hard disk. You can copy it from the CD-ROM or you can create it. To
create in one pass all standard formats of AsTEX for French and English for
LaTeX2
, for example, type formats latex2e dos in a DOS window if you use
TeXShell or a DOS editor, formats latex2e win if you use MicroEmacs or an
editor Windows. These formats permit to define frenchified commands with
accented characters, as \rÚsumÚ, franais \ or \flcheÓdroite. If you want to use
the package inputenc with the parameters cp850 or latin1, create a format
with the MakeFmts program and the parameter Page of codes: None or
copy it from the CD-ROM. But this package restrains the possibilities of
gallicizing: you won't be able to define some commands with accentuated
characters. Besides, the accentuated characters may not be displayed correctly
in the error messages, making LaTeX messages even more abstruse than
usually.
