The CD-Rom Plug & Play
If you have a reader of CD-Rom, the distribution can be used
directly starting from the CD-Rom in Plug & Play mode. This mode of
use has many advantages:
- The installation is very fast: only a core of 10 Mo is
installed on the hard disk.
- All the functions are immediately accessible.
- The installation of the updates takes only one minute: you have just
to replace the old CD-Rom by the new one and to refresh the
kernel of AsTeX. The new versions (LaTeX2e, TeXShell, etc.) are
immediately available without reinstalment.
- It makes it possible to save between 100 Mo and 800 Mo on
your hard disk (cf section 3.2 of README) for the complete installation.
- The distribution is optimized so that the current tasks which
would be carried out too slowly starting from the CD-Rom are
carried out starting from the hard disk (according to tasks, the
execution time is multiplied by a factor ranging between 1 and 2).
- It is possible at any moment to switch from Plug & Play mode to
the normal mode and conversely.
