ESPE Centre Val de Loire - Role and Mission

ESPE Centre Val de Loire – Academy of Orleans and Tours, a part of University of Orléans, was created on 1 September 2013 within the framework of the Education Reform Act of 2013. This Act was preceded by the joint accreditation by the Minister of National Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

This new structure, replacing the former IUFM Centre Val de Loire, is in charge of the training of the future teachers and educational supervisors for school and out-of-school activities, which takes place within the university. ESPE Centre Val de Loire offers, along with the University of Orleans and the University of Tours the Master’s program, MEEF (Métiers de l’Enseignement, de l’Education et de la Formation) within the framework of a 2-year-course

- The Master’s program MEEF 1st degree prepares future teachers for pre-primary and primary schools. It is offered in different training centers:  Blois, Bourges, Chartres, Châteauroux, Orléans and Tours-Fondettes.

- The Master’s program MEEF 2nd degree forms future teachers for secondary schools : The courses are followed both at ESPE Centre Val de Loire, and at other faculties of the University.

- The Master’s program MEEF Encadrement Educatif prepares future chief education counselors.

These Master’s programs also enable students to access also other professions in the field of education and training.

The training consists in a balance between education and internships. MEEF students prepare for the National Recruitment Exam for School Teachers during the first year, with the exam taking place at the end of the year. Those who pass the exam will have a double status in their second year of studies: they will be both students and probationer officials. They will be doing a sandwich course consisting of two parts: the professional part taking place at a school, and the other one taking place at ESPE Centre Val de Loire and its associated parts.

On the contrary; those who fail in the exam can be admitted to the second year and prepare for it again, while their path is adapted accordingly.

ESPE Centre Val de Loire is also involved in other trainings, such as continuing education/further education (1st and 2nd degree; Adaptation and Education of disabled children (ASH)), and training of teachers at a higher level (Phd., Training of trainers).

As regards those who already completed their teaching degree, ESPE Centre Val de Loire offers specific trainings enabling them to increase their knowledge and skills in computer science (C2i2e), or to specialize in teaching students with disabilities (CAPASH)...
