Summary of previous projects

The cross-training programs

In June 2001, the IUFM Orléans-Tours was among one of the 6 IUFM who replied positively to the suggestion of the Minister of National Education to participate to pilot program in exchanging PE2 interns with students from English-speaking universities.

It also constituted a tandem partnership between:

IUFM Orléans-Tours / University of Surrey (St. Mary’s College Twickenham).

11 PE2 coming from 4 IUFM training centers welcomed 11 English-speaking students.  Every of them spent 4 weeks in the welcoming country – conducting an accompanied practical internship in local school. The trainers from the two countries accompanied the interns in their work.  A “steering group” consisted of Assistant Director of primary school and the Head of International Relations and their British counterparts, assured the overall coordination.  The cross-training activity was considered a success both in the linguistic and professional objectives.  Afterwards, the cooperation was renewed for another 15 interns from each country.  The welcoming country is responsible for the accommodation of the exchange interns.

Internships in schools

The IUFM Orléans-Tours / International Learning and Reasearch Center Bristol

Following the woven relations of the LINGUA project between the two institutions, there was the possibility to hold the same mechanism for the Surrey / Twickenam program with Bristol region through a 4-week internship in school, and at the end, there was a total satisfaction from the participants and people related to the program.

It was agreed that the mechanism will be renewed.  Six interns were going in 2009 – 2010.

The IUFM Orléans-Tours/ Facultad de educacion Grenada

The cooperation between Academy of Orléans – Tours and the Delegation of the University of Granada was once signed.  An agreement, along with collaboration, will secure the two training institutions from the two regions for the initial training of PE2, of PLC2, both in Spanish and French, and in other discipline, such as mathematics and EPS.

The pilot activities were engaged during the academic year of 2001/2002 in order to allow the first evaluation of the effects and a construction of pertinent project for the years to come.  Numerous issues were discussed following the reference document for the bilateral work.

11 PE interns were returned for the academic year of 2009-2010.

Socrates-LINGUA

1. The training center in Orléans participated in a project namely LINGUA in 1999/2002, in the "Evaluation of apprenticeship of languages in primary schools" (PAMLA), coordinated by a Danish institution who has the Institutions from Romania and Great Britain as partners. This was introduced in the last year of the working.

2. The training center in Châteauroux participated in a project namely LINGUA D, in 2000/2003, through "Early language teaching and TICE" and coordinated the network of the 10 classes involved from Indre. The Orléans-Tours academy acts as the stakeholder. The partners are an English institution of Bristol (who maintains the coordination in general) and an Italian institution of Florence, each animating a network of 10 primary classes.

Socrates-Comenius

The Janua Linguarum program / the gate of languages “la porte des langues” (2000-2002) carried on the insertion of circular education of multi-lingualism, is supported by the European Commission (Comenius program) and by the Council of Europe (register to the activities of European Center programs for Foreign languages / Centre Européen pour les Langues Vivantes (CELV) of Graz

The IUFM was the official partner of the project.  It was coordinated at the national level by Martin Kervran and proposed through a national network from more than 100 pilot classes that around thirties were in our academy.  The project was for the purpose of preparing the students to live in a diverse linguistic and cultural society and the development of metalinguistic and transverse competences.  The class participants test and exchange between themselves the pedagogic activities including the extensions towards the other disciplinary and cross field aiming to register the comparison and reflexive activities on the languages and the cultures in the school programs, from nursery school to secondary school.

Missions indicated in overseas

Poland :

Bourges city is a twin city of the Koszalin city.  The Teacher-training institute of Koszalin trains the French teachers.  Students of this institute were welcomed after three years in the IUFM training centers, particularly in Bourges and Châteauroux, (and also in Tours- Fondettes in 2000).

The teacher-training of Koszalin belongs to the University of Poznan that IUFM has as one of its partners for the Socrates-Erasmus contract for the year of 2002-2003.  It became an exchange of four students.  The trainers of the IUFM Bourges center worked on re-launching the European project called Socrates LINGUA, in association with the Polish Colleagues.  One mission of the IUFM Orléans-Tours was coincided with the movement of the elected city and the General Counsel of Cher in Poland from 23 to 26 May.

Croatia :

The IUFM was solicited by the entrusted person in charge of the International Center of Educational Pedagogic (Sèvres) for the Embassy of France in Croatia in order to respond to the request of the Teacher-training Academy, for the departments of English and German that exist there.  Cooperation with the IUFM Orléans-Tours was relevant since the University of Orléans has an agreement with the University of Zagreb.  In addition, the IUFM Orléans-Tours actually takes part in the Lingua program in the early apprenticeship of languages, with the English and Italian partner.  The early apprenticeship of languages is an actual subject and of a growing importance, particularly within Europe (EU and other countries, notably those in the process of adhesion).

Financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Head of International Relations of the IUFM Orléans-Tours and the coordinator of CIEP went to Zagreb from 13 to 16 March 2002 to take the first contract and construct the project (contents, methods, financing methods, academic calendars).

The following points were adopted at the end of the mission /

  • To start up a bilateral project, and construct the basic of the Tempus project;
  • To orient the work of thematic and early apprenticeship of languages and in its formation (initial and continuous) teachers in this direction;
  • To support a specialized expertise and in the IUFM.
