Licence mention "Sciences de la Vie"

The Bachelors degree "Life Sciences" is organizes in six semesters of teachings, the first one of which establishes a widely multidisciplinary common-core syllabus.

The first semester, which gives an overview of the various aspects of Life Sciences, allows students to make a choice between the two options of the second semester :

  • the option Biology-Biochemistry, allows students to acquire the basis of a non-specialized training in biological sciences. Afterwards students may follow various pathways to qualify for a Bachelors degree in Life sciences.

  • the option Science, Technology and Earth Science (SVT) : it contains tuition tailored to students who wish to prepare for the CAPES competitions (Certificat d'aptitude au professorat de l'enseignement du second degré) Science, Technology and Earth Science.

From the semester 3 and semester 4, students follow modules of differentiation, which allows an orientation towards a precise route.

The aim of the Bachelors degree "Life Science" is to :
      - train students in all disciplines of biology : animal and general biology, cellular and molecular biology, formal genetics and populations, animal physiology and vegetable physiology, biotechnology, ecology, biology of organisms, populations and ecosystems, biochemistry and biophysics and to allow the student to acquire fundamental and practical level knowledge Bac+3 in all the technical and scientific sectors of Life sciences, this knowledge being essential to a continuation of studies towards a Professionnal or a Research Masters degree or to an integration in the professional world in this area.
      - prepare for the competitions : CAPES SVT, Teaching profession of schools, Engineer Schools as Agronomics, Veterinary, Biotechnology …

The Bachelors degree "Life science" is organized in 5 specialized pathways at the level L3 (Year 3) :

1- The pathway « Biology of Organisms, Populations and Ecosystems» (BOPE) is integrated into the current context of the development of the disciplines of the ecology and the biodiversity. This pathway allows the students to improve their knowledge on the inter-relationships of the human, animal or plant life, as well as the links with their environment. The adaptative, evolutionary, physiological and genetic mechanisms are approached at the level of the organisms and the populations. To go, beyond just theoretical knowledge, studies on the ground and in laboratory, integrating the modern tools of the molecular biology, will be encouraged.

In the semester 6, an experimental intership of ground terrain is set up for all students.

2- The pathway « Molecular and Cellular Biology » (BMC) is intended for students who want to approach the living world, by its physiological, cellular and molecular aspects. This pathway allows students to acquire knowledge in molecular biology, structural biochemistry, genetics, biochemistry, biophysics, human and animal physiology and in immunology. The practical aspects provide students with an initiation into laboratory work in these various domains. A choice of option of chemistry in semester 6 will also allow students to acquire knowledge specific in bioorganic chemistry.

3- The pathway « Biology and Earth Science» (BST) allows students to deepen their knowledge in the area of  biology and geology to a sufficient level for CAPES-SVT. The CAPES program being vast, this pathway is included this request for reinforce additional tuition in every semester according to EU guidelines (pathway education L1/L2 and BST L3). This pathway provides part of the knowledge necessary for the student, the tuition being given during the first year of the Masters degree " teaching " MEEF-SVT proposed in Orleans.

4- The pathway « Multidisciplinary » (PLURI) is for students wishing to obtain a level Bac+3 to apply for the competitions of the public service in one hand and especially to integrate a Masters degree to prepare for the competition of the teaching profession of schools (as proposed by the IUFM (French School of Education) of Orleans-Tours). To do this, scientific tuition is completed with units of Mathematics, French and English with tuition overseas proposed by the IUFM (French School of Education).
