Foreign students

Students from a member country of the European Economic Area:

These students are exempted from affiliation to the French national health insurance scheme for students upon presentation of the following when they register:

  • a European health insurance card
  • or a personal and private certificate, translated into French, covering all the risks to which they may be exposed during the total duration of their stay in France and which does not include any restrictions on tariffs.

     Students from a countries outside the European Economic Area:

Affiliation to the French national health insurance scheme for students is compulsory and payable by students who register for the complete academic year.

In this case, no other personal health insurance certificates will be taken into consideration. 

Foreign students from outside the EEA who come to France to study for less than 3 months are not covered by the French national health insurance scheme for students. They must produce a personal health insurance certificate, translated into French, covering all the risks to which they may be exposed during the total duration of their stay in France and which does not include any restrictions on tariffs. 

     Foreign students on French government scholarships:

These students are exempted from paying any registration fees and health insurance contributions upon presentation of the scholarship certificate for the academic year 2012/2013.
