Aldehydes are important intermediates in alcohol combustion and also offer the possibility to study low-temperature chemistry of alkyl radicals. Primary fuel radicals can also go through low-tmperature chain branching pathways.
Our study on two branched C5 aldehydes, show that both were reactive at low temperatures:
