Interview conducted in February 2023

Théophile Sornique, you have been re-elected Student Vice-President on 17 January 2023 by the Academic Council for a 2-year term.

Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

After a scientific baccalaureate in 2019, I started a bachelor’s degree in law. After 3 years, I switched to another field and started studying language sciences this year. I joined several students associations and became “elected student” in 2020. In 2021, I began my first Student Vice-President term, which was renewed this year in January.

The Student Vice-President is elected among the student representatives in the Training and University Life Commission (CFVU). His or her role is to represent students within the governance of the University. He or she seats in the various councils, commissions or meetings, intervenes with the President and his or her team on student-related issues, and is in close contact with student representatives.

How do you consider your vice-presidency within the University of Orléans?

I see this second term as a continuation of the first one. I have been able to take part in various projects that are achieved, others that are in the process of being completed, but there is still a lot to do.

What are the main projects you would like to carry out during your term?

Among these projects, there is first the fact of ensuring optimal studying conditions for all students. These conditions depend first of all on a good quality of training, a point that I discuss with the other student representatives in the CFVU. For instance, we vote for the different employment campaigns conducted by the University.

Also, student life and its environment are important for the proper conduct of studies. The lake footbridge (on the Orléans La Source campus), which has been inaccessible for several years, must be replaced as soon as possible. Work should begin soon. The Happy Campus Day and the promotion of student initiatives through the FSDIE help to animate your student life.

Finally, the House of Associations project is slowly emerging, it would gather several cross-disciplinary associations, and become a place for meeting and cohesion as well for other projects for students.

What message would you like to deliver to students?

I wish you all a great student year, full of success I hope. Student representatives are committed for you, they defend your interests at best every day.
