The Laboratoire d'Informatique Fondamentale d'Orléans is a laboratory of the Université d'Orléans and the ENSI de Bourges r, officially recognized and supported by the French Ministry of Research. Within the current 2008-2011 research development plan, LIFO is a Research Unit (Équipe d'accueil) N°4022.

LIFO is a compuster sciences research lab. Research projects conducted at LIFO range from algorithmics to scientific visualization, from machine learning to massive parallelism, from model checking to system security. The laboratory is structured around four teams:

Constraints and Machine Learning	Graphs, Algorithms and Models of Computation
Computing, Modeling and Verification of Distributed and Parallel Systems	Security and Distributed Systems

To provide another approach to the lab. and to foster inter-team cooperation, the following cross-lab. thematics are put forward:

• Massive data sets and high performance computation,
• Modelization and algorithms, and
• Security and safety.

Inside the l'école doctorale Mathématiques, Informatique, Physique Théorique et Ingénierie des Systèmes (ÉD MIPTIS), the requests for PhD grants from Ministère de l'Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche and the Région Centre for 2013 are :

• Vers la maîtrise des approximations pseudo-régulières pour la vérification de programmes parallèles (LIFO, P. Réty et Y. Boichut)
• Découverte de connaissances dans des séries temporelles (LIFO, C. Vrain et M. Exbrayat)
• Protection des systèmes d’exploitation virtualisés et des Clouds (LIFO, C. Toinard)
• Discrétisation automatique de ℝ² vers un automate cellulaire (LIFO, J. Durand-Lose)

 The LIFO is deeply involved in the University of Orleans' MSC in Computer Science (Informatique and MIAGE).

The LIFO is part of

• the (local structure) Institut Thématique Pluridisciplinaire (ITP)  Modélisation, Systèmes et Langages (MSL) of the Université d'Orléans, and of
• the fédération CaSciModOT (Calcul Scientifique et Modélisation Orléans Tours).

The LIFO is member of the Société Informatique de France (french computer system society).
