The Laboratoire d'Informatique Fondamentale d'Orléans is a laboratory of the Université d'Orléans and the INSA Centre-Val de Loire, officially recognized and supported by the French Ministry of Research. Within the current 2008-2011 research development plan, LIFO is a Research Unit (Équipe d'accueil) N°4022. On January 1st, 2016, it is composed of 72 members, 42 of whom are pemanent faculty members in activity.

In order to develop its collabarations and to offer a window to the research in computer science in Région Centre, the LIFO is creating a research federation together with the Laboratoire d'Informatique from the Université de Tours. Its name is Fédération Informatique Centre-Val de Loire.
LIFO is a compuster sciences research lab. Research projects conducted at LIFO range from algorithmics to natural languages processing, from machine learning to massive parallelism, from model checking and certification to system security, from big data to embedded systems. The laboratory is structured around five teams:
