In this talk, I will introduce the field of delay-based cryptography, an area that explores how computational delay can serve as a fundamental security resource. I will motivate the study of delay and present the primitives that have been developed by the cryptographic community that harness this concept. The talk will highlight challenging open problems and outline recent advances in delay-based signatures, including preliminary results from my ongoing work. The presentation draws on my research from CSF 2023 and Africacrypt 2023, as well as new work currently in preparation.
