DELF/DALF, what is it ?
About the DELF/DALF
The DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) and the DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are national diplomas awarded by the French Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research. They officially certify a foreigner's level of knowledge, practice and command of the French language.
These diplomas are valid for life. The DELF has 4 levels and the DALF 2 levels. The Institut de français is accredited by France Education International and by the Orléans-Tours Education Authority for the DELF and DALF examinations.
Public concerned
Foreign nationals and French nationals from non-French-speaking countries who do not hold a French public secondary or higher education diploma may be awarded the DELF or DALF.
Description of the tests
Four skills are assessed for each diploma:
- listening comprehension
written comprehension
oral production
written production.
Each test is worth 25 points. The tests are collective, except for one individual test (oral production). The 6 diplomas that make up DELF and DALF are completely independent. Candidates can register directly for the exam of their choice, depending on their level. The Institut de français at the University of Orléans offers 4 of the 6 diplomas: DELF A2, DELF B1, DELF B2 and DALF C1.
