What is an observation service?

Every OSU has specific tasks aiming to ensure long-term continuation and continuity of the services concerning systems (and/or long-term experimentation) observing Earth's natural environments or deep space objects. It acts as a liaison between the teams that are responsible for these services and prioritise their needs.

As it is stated in the OSU charter signed by the National Institute for the Sciences of the Universe, the CNRS, and the universities involved in the observation services.

This involves:

observation sites' and/or national tools' proper functioning;

gathering and archiving data in long-term information systems;

keeping community-based numerical models active and developing them further;

creating the tools necessary for the development of these activities.
