The Horse race, also known as the Epsom Derby Théodore Géricault 1821 Oil on Canvas
Captured in a “flying gallop”, the racing horses seem to be hovering in the air, with their fore and hind quarters stretched horizontally. However impossible this gallop may be, as was proved by photography several decades later, it’s a way for the artist to paint the impression of frozen quick movement.
