For a world without fossil fuels – Valorization of carbon-free energy carriers, energy management – in close collaboration with companies in the transport or energy production sectors.
The area’s activities are in line with the following societal challenges:
- GREEN DEAL – objective 55: carbon neutrality, focus on transport
- Industrial resilience/reindustrialization of European countries
- European energy independence
The scientific project is
- to study the combustion and valorization of carbon-free energy carriers (gas, liquid, solid carbon-free or carbon neutral) based on an experimental approach and on quasi and mono-dimensional modeling
- to offer an energy optimization of systems
Research themes
The ECM Area is supported by multi-disciplinary skills in energetics and automatic control, and is positioned at the crossroads between the fundamental and applied aspects (energy transport and production) of the following themes:
1 - Combustion and Fuels: carbon-free or carbon-neutral fuel influences (Dihydrogen, Ammonia, Biogas, Syngas) on
- the fundamental aspects of combustion: flame propagation, fuel auto-ignition, spray , preparation of the air-fuel mixture
- the performances of energy converters depending on combustion modes: spark ignition, compression ignition, dual-fuel, HCCI, RCCI, etc.
2 – Modeling, optimization, control
- Physical modeling for control
- Hybridization and powertrain control for different technologies and architectures
- Energy management, improving powertrain efficiency
