The researchers, translators, writers, poets, playwrights and publishers gathered in this volume devoted to translation as the mediation and mediatization of cultures invite the public to discover the passages between contemporary European, American (North/South), Dominican and Asian literary cultures. At the heart of a process of reading the foreign, translation underpins experiences of appropriation of the Other's culture, self-translation, acculturation and pleasure. In short, these are all privileged readings that rewrite and transmit literary texts. Assuming that these passages between works and translators build the babel of passage from one literature to another, it is not left in the shadow that the translating experience understood as mediatization between cultures engages choices that are not exclusively literary but historical or political.
Translating often becomes a political act, where introducing the foreigner means opposing various national totalitarianisms. Translation as mediation and mediatization in the service of a philosophy of freedom of consciousness of oneself as an Other!

To question double meaning, as the reader is invited to do in the present volume, Double(s) sens / Doble(s) sentido(s) : Espagne-Amérique Latine / América Latina-España, is to consider from the outset that the single meaning is not necessarily the most significant, and that the clarity of a discourse, of a work, of a representation of the world is not the basis of its richness or interest. It is a risky gamble, but one that is stimulating for both the mind and the creative process, and which, in the final analysis, means risking wandering off the beaten track.

Movimientos insomnes brings together a wide selection of the poetic work of Clara Janés (Barcelona, 1940), one of the central figures of contemporary poetry. Taking as its starting point the inaugural book Las estrellas vencidas (1964), this volume, prepared by the poet and critic Jaime Siles - who has written an enlightening reception in a preliminary study - gives an account of the rich trajectory of the poet, recognized as a translator (she received the National Prize in 1997 for her numerous translations of Czech, Turkish and Persian poets).

Sueños isleños/Rêves insulaires is Basilio Belliard's first bilingual Spanish/French poetry anthology, which aims to open a new window on the Dominican Republic thanks to this artist who won the 2002 National Poetry Prize.
« Nul n’est plus solitaire qu’un insulaire » the poet writes, before adding: « L’insulaire se nourrit d’espace : il a soif de voyages et d’envols. Il naît avec des ailes et porte en son cœur une barque. » (« Isla al aire » / « Île en l’air »). These reflections can certainly be applied to their author. His poems are little paintings, often featuring the Caribbean Sea, silent, raging, a place of shipwrecks or a metaphor for the longed-for woman.
His work explores the enclosed space of the island, its beauty, its senses, its rhythm, while constantly surpassing its limits and building bridges to other dream territories. The texts are simple, humble and sensual. The prose poems, under the aegis of Baudelaire: “Sois toujours poète, même en prose”, blur the boundaries between genres. Some have clear autobiographical echoes. Basilio Belliard looks back on his vocation as a poet, which he links to childhood, dreams, doubt, anguish, toil that may be in vain but is constantly renewed, to a “sand craft”, as he puts it.
This bilingual collection of poems is preceded by two introductions:
The first is by Rafael Courtoisie, a Uruguayan writer. Born in Montevideo in 1958, he is a poet, essayist, novelist and author of storybooks and short stories. He has taught Latin American literature in Uruguay, the United States and England. He has received numerous awards and distinctions in many countries, and his work is published in several languages.
The second is by Catherine Pélage, associate member of CRIMIC ( Interdisciplinary Research Center on Contemporary Iberian Worlds), Associate Professor at the University of Orléans and translator of the poems published in this anthology.
