Writing, taken in the broadest sense of the term, gives pride of place to movement and wandering, depicting both ancient mobilities and more recent migrations. This writing, both visual and verbal, presents autobiographical, maritime, journalistic and poetic experiences of mobility. In particular, it defines the spaces crossed (the sea, the desert, the Far East), recalls wars (the exodus of 1940, the war in the Balkans or Vietnam) or the daily urban life of outcasts, whether half-great or not. But this writing is based on a language, also in mobility, founded on an authoriality carried by decenterings (historical, geographical, cultural), intimate and family openings, linguistic apprenticeships and a recognition of both national and social differences. Finally, this writing shows that language is deeply involved in a quest to transpose the crossing of borders, de-territorialization and the sense of belonging. It reveals a nomadic language that flies over territories, highlighting diversity, exploration and hybridization.

This collection of articles is part of the highly inter-disciplinary and intercultural field of studies on chosen or forced mobility, whether geographical, familial, social or cultural. It provides an opportunity to discover ever-changing forms of writing in which mobility appears in its broadest and most essential sense: as a quest for reality, dreams and living together in a context of cultural globalization and the reinforcement of borders.
