This volume, entitled Écrire et vivre les insularités, Inspirations littéraires, quotes Aimé Césaire's memorable declaration: “ The island calls for other islands. The island calls the archipelago. The island calls the continent”. Far from the isolated island, the collective reflection here focuses on island creations whose poetics transcend national cartographies to reach intercultural archipelagos. Researchers from European, American, African and Asian universities combine their approaches to take account of what is at stake in creations from and on islands. In so doing, they celebrate the artists who rewrite and reinterpret island spaces, and those who use metaphor to perpetuate dialogues between cultures.
This first work is followed by a second entitled Pensées insulaires, Aspirations socio-culturelles. These two volumes are conceived as pulsating signs of spaces in motion.
