The Confucius Institute, a service of the University of Orléans, offers a range of classes, academic conferences and cultural activities for professionals, employees and all people who wish to learn more on the Middle Kingdom, its language, its millennial civilisation, its swift expansion and its place in the 21st century world. 

Created in July 2019, unique in the Centre-Val de Loire region, the Orléans Confucius Institute is the 17th Institute on the French territory. It is co-directed and co-financed with the prestigious South China University in the Hunan province. 

Located in the remarkable setting of the Hôtel Dupanloup, a 17th century historical building in the heart of Orléans and right next to the train station, the Confucius Institute in partnership with the SEFCO offers 3 courses for everyone – professionals, business leaders, employees, private individuals – who wishes to discover or improve their knowledge on China.


Chinese (Mandarin) courses: for all audiences who wish to discover or improve their knowledge of the Chinese language

  • Introduction to the Chinese language (characters, tones…): 20 hours of training. Funded rate: 600 euros - not funded: 160 euros.
  • Chinese courses (all levels): 50 hours of training (2 hours per week). Funded rate: 1,300 euros - not funded: 400 euros.
  • Private lessons (all levels): minimum 10 hours of training. Funded rate: 60 euros/hour - not funded: 30 euros/hour.
  • Prerequisites: none
  • Evening classes (after 6pm) and on Saturday mornings. On-site or hybrid classes.

Commercial Chinese course: for companies and entrepreneurs who wish to develop their commercial activity with China

  • Course objective: during this course, written and oral skills are focused on the development of oral communication. Cultural knowledge are also offered to improve mutual comprehension and to better communicate with Chinese partners.
  • 50 hours of training. Funded rate: 1,500 euros - not funded: 400 euros.
  • Prerequisites: a basic level in Chinese. 
  • Evening classes (after 6pm) and on Saturday mornings. On-site or hybrid classes.

Geography, economy, sustainable development in China: for all audiences who wish to know China better, from a scientific point of view but also to understand the major challenges of the 21st century from a Chinese perspective.

  • Course objectives: this course, nourished by the latest research of Professor Guillaume Giroir, deals in detail with a major theme and challenge of the contemporary world: the question of sustainable development in China.
  • 20 hours of training. Funded rate: 1000 euros - not funded: 160 euros.
  • Prerequisites: none
  • Evening classes (after 6pm) and on Saturday mornings. On-site or hybrid classes.
