This workshop will introduce patchwork to beginners who are interested in this sewing technique. The participants will produce a simple work with small bit of fabric collected at home and connect the past with the present. They will put together colours, textures that are special to them. Things which remind them of previous lives and previous places.

The workshop will engage both host community and refugees. The aim is to raise some awareness  on the daily resilience and the necessary connections that come with settling in a new country .

Refaiya Haidar is Syrian and has been living in Orleans (France) for 3 years.

She has been patchworking on a daily basis, using different pieces of fabric for useful or decorative projects.

She wants to create beauty and inner peace as well as useful things. She creates new patterns that give new shapes and meaning to the past for a better understanding of the now.

This workshop is an exploration of memory, both collective and personal.

This workshop is an idea of Ahed Zarzour, whose research on motherhood and asylum is currently leading to a book based on stories of refugee mothers in France.

Cet atelier a lieu dans  le cadre de la Journée mondiale du réfugié et du projet Migract.
