The "Scientific Partners for the Classroom" plan, formerly called ASTEP (Support in Science and Technology for Primary School) enables primary-school teachers to receive support from a scientist for the development of school science projects.
The scientist helper (who must be in at least second year of a bachelor's degree) works in tandem with the teacher for 5 to 7 sessions in class. From September 2014, 383 projects have been supported in the Orléans-Tours educational authority. The helpers are mostly third year bachelor's degree students in the universities of Orléans and Tours and doctoral students, but also technicians, research engineers and teacher-researchers.
